Randolph College DGC

Location: Lynchburg, Virginia

Status: Open

Randolph College Disc Golf Course is a 9-hole course located on the campus of Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Established in 2010, the course winds through The Dell behind Houston Memorial Chapel and makes effective use of the natural elevation found on the historic campus. Despite its compact footprint, the layout features a variety of uphill and downhill shots that provide an enjoyable challenge for beginners and experienced players alike.

The course is short by modern standards and is often described as beginner-friendly. Most holes can be reached with controlled drives rather than maximum distance, making it an excellent option for new players, students, and anyone looking for a quick round. The entire course can typically be completed in less than an hour.

One of the course's greatest strengths is the appearance of the campus itself. The grounds are generally well maintained, and the course benefits from a scenic setting among mature trees, open grassy areas, and the college's historic buildings. However, seasonal vegetation growth occasionally affects some fairways and rough areas, generating periodic complaints from players.

The most common criticism involves infrastructure rather than the layout. Randolph College does not have permanent tee pads, with players throwing from natural grass tee areas. The course also lacks comprehensive tee signs and navigation aids, which can make the layout confusing for first-time visitors unfamiliar with the campus. Despite these limitations, experienced local players generally find the course easy to follow after one round.

Legacy

Randolph College remains one of Lynchburg's lesser-known disc golf courses. While it lacks the infrastructure and visibility of larger local destinations such as Peaks View Park, Sandusky Park, or the University of Lynchburg course, it continues to provide a free and accessible place to play. Its combination of elevation, scenery, and beginner-friendly design makes it a valuable part of the Lynchburg disc golf community and a popular option for quick rounds between classes or after work.
